Emergencies

In case of an emergency please call the office. Most problems do not require immediate attention, but if you are experiencing pain Dr. Martin will make you comfortable as soon as possible. The answering machine at the office will tell you the number to call in case of an emergency after office hours. Some possible problems and solutions are listed below:

If you need more wax to ease the pain of a sticking wire or loose bracket and the office is closed you can usually find it at your neighborhood pharmacy in the toothpaste section.
If part of your braces come off bring the loose piece in with you to your next appointment.
If your retainer breaks bring all the pieces in with you to your next appointment.
Looseness of the teeth is normal with braces, and they will tighten back up after the braces are removed.
Tooth soreness is normal and may move from tooth to tooth and come and go between appointments. Aspirin or ibuprofen work well for this pain, but call the office if the pain is severe. If you can't take aspirin or ibuprofen you may take acetaminophen. DON'T TAKE ASPIRIN IF YOU HAVE CHICKEN POX!
If you have an accident which causes a large cut in your mouth, a tooth to come out, or a tooth to be severely displaced you should probably be seen by an oral surgeon, but feel free to call Dr. Martin if you are unsure.
